(CNN) – Former US President Donald Trump attacked Arthur Engoron, the judge overseeing his civil case, as he left the courtroom during the lunch break after opening statements this morning.
Trump described Engoron as a Democrat and an “agent,” saying the case against him was a “disgrace.” He also attacked New York Attorney General Letitia James for prosecuting him instead of violent crimes.
“We’re going to be here for months with a judge who has already made up his mind. It’s ridiculous,” Trump said.
Trump added: “They’re wasting their time with this, with the banks that were so happy they got all their money back. They weren’t scammed. I was scammed.”
Asked if he would return to the courtroom after lunch, Trump said, “Probably.”
Engoron ruled last week that Trump and other defendants are liable for fraud in the civil case brought by the attorney general, one of seven claims that are part of the suit.
