The Ministry of Internal Affairs accused the former American diplomat Mark Vogel of drug smuggling. He’s already under arrest.
Using his diplomatic status until the spring of last year, Vogel could organize a channel for the supply of banned substances to Russia in order to sell them in the future at an elite Anglo-American school, security officials say. In this regard, a criminal case was initiated under the article on smuggling, acquisition, storage and transportation of drugs. For this, the defendant faces up to 20 years in prison. The court decided to arrest Mark Vogel, because, as noted in the Ministry of Internal Affairs, he could hide from the investigators in the embassy.
The department also emphasizes that immediately after the initiation of a criminal case, searches were conducted in the apartment of the former diplomat, but his wife managed to get rid of the evidence. CCTV cameras allegedly show how she took out a bundle from the house, and then threw it into a trash can, and after some time returned and took it outside the residential complex.
Mark Vogel and his wife were detained last summer right at Sheremetyevo Airport. During a search, marijuana and cannabis oil were found in his bag.
