Former US CDC Officials Call Corona Comes from the Wuhan Lab

Jakarta, NU Online

Former Director of the United States (US) Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Robert Redfield believes that the corona virus originated from the Wuhan laboratory in China.

“I am of the view that I still think the most likely cause of this pathology in Wuhan came from the laboratory. (This virus) escaped. Other people don’t believe it. It’s okay. Science will eventually figure it out,” Robert Redfield told reporters. CNN, Friday (26/3).

Redfield said so with reference to the Wuhan Institute of Virology, the Wuhan National Biosafety Laboratory (Level 4) or Lab P4 in China. He highlighted that it is not uncommon for respiratory pathogens being worked on in the laboratory to infect laboratory workers.

“It doesn’t imply intent. That’s my opinion, right? But I’m a virologist. I’ve spent my life in virology,” he said.

The expert said he did not believe the virus originated from bats to humans, being one of the most contagious viruses we know in humans for human-to-human transmission.

Redfield even said that the virus had spread in Wuhan in September or October 2019. Not December 2019 as reported so far.

In early February, the World Health Organization (WHO) said it was “highly unlikely” that the virus would spread from a laboratory leak in Wuhan.

However, Peter Ben Embarek, leader of the WHO team carrying out the investigation in Wuhan, said more research was needed to identify the source.

Since December 2019, when the virus was first detected, Johns Hopkins University has recorded more than 125.6 million cases and more than 2.7 million deaths have been reported globally.
