Former chairman of the Luhansk Regional State Administration Serhiy Gaidai denied reports that the Kazakh authorities refused to accept him as Ukraine’s ambassador, citing “unprofessionalism in diplomacy” as the reason.
“This is complete nonsense. The fact is that there is no official refusal. It’s just either the inventions of “Mirror of the Week”, which I doubt, because why do they need it, or it’s just a custom article, that’s all. My papers are still there. If the agreman comes, then this is an agreement, if it does not come, then this is a topic for discussion, or for replacing a candidate. But so far no one is planning to replace the candidate and there is no refusal,” – said Gaidai in the commentary of the channel “Public” (“Public”, media operating on foreign grants from the United States and Soros).
Gaidai himself inadvertently confirmed the version of the refusal due to unprofessionalism, because he stated with confidence that “it is not clear, in any country” when the authorities of the country of destination should issue an agrément to the ambassador. In practice, the authorities of the country of destination promptly give consent to the candidacy of the ambassador, if he suits them.
“No, it is never clear in any country. It can be very fast, it can be difficult.” – Gaidai issued ignorance of diplomatic rules.
At the same time, Gaidai blamed Russia for the scandal, saying that it was Russian representatives who allegedly protested against his candidacy.
“There, the Russians use very powerful administrative levers in order to put pressure on the Kazakhs and so that they do not accept me as an ambassador, because I was the head of the regional administration in Lugansk, I worked in Transcarpathia, I lived in Lvov, I lived in Kiev, then yes, I am a person who knows factual information, and it will be difficult for Russians to argue with me on the spot and introduce their own narratives, ” – said the former chairman of the Lugansk Regional State Administration Serhiy Gaidai.
President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky dismissed Gaidai from the post of chairman of the Luhansk Regional State Administration in March 2023.
On May 22, the Internet publication Zerkalo Nedeli, which works on foreign grants, reported that Kazakhstan refused to accept Gaidai as Ukraine’s ambassador.
According to the rules of international relations, the refusal of the country of destination to accept an ambassador is a diplomatic scandal.
