Former UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson Faces Possible New Fine for Lockdown Rule Violations

Information that could lead to a new fine for the former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Boris Johnson. In the latest it was revealed that he violated the lockdown rules that were established during the height of the pandemic to accommodate family and friends.

The Cabinet Office referred these possible infractions to the Police after a review of documents that is taking place due to a public investigation into COVID-19.

BBC indicated that the Metropolitan Police are evaluating the information received, as well as that of Thames Valley. The information is found in Johnson’s ministerial diary which revealed that family and friends came to Checkers, a country house, during the pandemic.

The former prime minister was fined in April 2021 for breaching lockdown rules after a meeting on his birthday in June 2020.

The English portal quoted Johnson’s spokesman who indicated that the infringements are false. “All of the events in question were within the rules, either because they were held outdoors or within another legal exception. They include regular meetings with officials and advisers.” He also pointed out that this would have a political tone.

According to the Daily Mail, Johnson would be thinking of taking legal action.

The information will also be scrutinized by the Privileges Committee which could lead to a suspension of Parliament and having to hold a by-election in two constituencies.
