Frank Masmeijer is not very pleased with the Viaplay documentary that was made about him. “I actually wanted a nice document, but it didn’t turn out,” said the former presenter Race on Sunday.
The film Grace: The True Story of Frank Masmeijer, which can be seen from Saturday, is, according to Masmeijer (61), too much “focused” on the drug smuggling case. The former presenter was sentenced to nine years in prison in Belgium for cocaine smuggling. He was released earlier last year because he had been pardoned.
“I had hoped more myself: what does my life look like now? I don’t really think it’s that innovative and I think that’s a shame,” Masmeijer said about the documentary. He is quite “shocked” by the portrait. He sees the documentary as a “closure to this story” and does not want to talk about the case after this. “I’m a bit fed up now.”
In the documentary, Masmeijer sticks to the story that he only brought people together. He doesn’t share much more. “I have always said what my role has been. That is how my role has really been,” the former presenter added on Sunday evening.
