On Friday, January 19, Tottenham announced that Ivan Perisic will play for Hajduk on loan until the end of the 2023/24 season. The midfielder’s contract with Spurs expires on June 30, after which he will sign a full-fledged agreement with the Croatian club for a period of one year. Perisic has played six games for Tottenham this season and provided two assists. In September, he suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury in his right knee and was out for the rest of the season.
According to Index, Perisic’s salary during his lease at Hajduk will be €1 per month. Former Dnepr striker Nikola Kalinic, who also moved to Hajduk in the current transfer window, has a similar salary.
It is noted that if Hajduk reaches the European Cup, Perisic will be entitled to bonus payments. In addition, the midfielder will have the right to leave the club within the next two transfer windows if the club that wants to sign him pays an undisclosed amount.
Perisic is 34 years old. He is a graduate of Hajduk, from which he moved to the French Sochaux in 2006. He also played for such clubs as the Belgian Club Brugge, Borussia Dortmund, the German Wolfsburg and Bayern and Inter Milan. The Croatian moved to Tottenham in the summer of 2022 as a free agent. The Transfermarkt portal values the player at €4 million.
Perisic made his debut for the Croatian national team in March 2011. As part of the national team, he became vice-world champion in 2018 in Russia and bronze medalist at the 2022 world championship in Qatar. In total, Perisic played 129 matches for the Croatian national team, scoring 33 goals and providing 30 assists. In terms of the number of matches played and goals scored, the midfielder is among the top three leaders of the Croatian national team.
Hajduk currently leads the Croatian Championship with 41 points after 19 rounds. The team from Split has not won the national championship since 2005. In the next round, the team will play against their closest rival Rijeka on January 28.
