The match between two big European clubs was played yesterday in Pasadena, California. Just six minutes before the official start, Shaka Hislop, who works as a soccer expert for ESPN, scared the audience. The former goalkeeper of Newcastle, with whom he was second in the Premier League twice, and West Ham first wobbled and then fell to the ground.
Before the broadcast broke to commercial, Hislop’s microphone partner Dan Thomas was seen immediately calling for medical personnel. The paramedics immediately took care of the 54-year-old Briton and provided him with first aid.
“He’s recovered,” commentator Adrian Healey said during the match. “I didn’t see the incident… But I’m sure it was scary. Fortunately, they confirmed to us that he’s definitely fine.”
Thomas later added that while his co-host was fine, it was too early for any medical diagnosis. “Obviously, my friend Shaka – he’s not here, but the way it looks, we have good news. He’s conscious, he’s talking,” Thomas said at half-time of the game, which Real Madrid won 3-2.
