The Slovakian enclave in the KHL has grown by another name. This time, however, it is not about the player, but about the coach Andrej Podkonický, who agreed with the club Avangard Omsk. The club website informs about it.

Andrej Podkonický signed a one-year contract with the hockey club Avangard Omsk and will hold the position of assistant coach.

“We were looking for a progressive coach with the perspective and skills required by today’s style of play to work with defenders. Podkonický became champion of Slovakia twice, has extensive experience with the national team and a bronze Olympic medal.

He worked as both an assistant and a head coach, specializing in the development of defenders and penalty shooting. He devotes a lot of time to video analysis, tactics, likes to work with young players. It is also important that he played in Russia, knows Russian and English. With the signing of Podkonický, we have added to our coaching staff,” said general manager Anton Kurianov for the official club website.

In the 2022/23 season, Andrej Podkonický was the coach of Slovan Bratislava and the assistant coach of the Slovak national team at the World Championships.
