Former short track national team athlete Kim Dong-seong (44) was criminally sued by his ex-wife Oh (42) for failing to pay child support to their two children after divorce.
Kim Dong-seong’s side claimed in a media interview on the 11th that it was not possible to pay child support due to difficult economic circumstances.
On November 29 last year, his ex-wife Oh submitted a complaint against Kim Dong-seong to the Yongin Eastern Police Station in Gyeonggi Province on charges of violating the Act on Securing and Supporting Child Support (Child Support Act). Ms. Oh claimed that although she was divorced, she did not receive about 80 million won in child support from 2018 to October last year.
Min-jeong Min, who started a new family with Dong-seong Kim, appeared in a media interview on behalf of Kim Dong-seong and stated that she would pay child support when her economic situation improved.
In an interview with Women’s Newspaper on this day, Min-jeong Min said, “I am conveying my position on behalf of Mr. Kim because he is having a hard time regarding the criminal complaint. Currently, the debt is greater than the income, so we are unable to provide child support.”
Min-jeong Min said, “It’s been less than a year since I finally made up my mind and started working, so how can I pay child support?” “Isn’t it only when the child’s father is alive that the children can be raised?” “Once you live, all problems will be solved,” he said.
It is known that Kim Dong-seong is currently earning income through day labor at construction sites and short track training.
Regarding Kim Dong-seong’s refusal to meet his children, Min-jeong Min said, “Many misunderstandings about Mr. Kim are known through the media, and I do not want my children to see him working at a construction site.” “I hope we can meet later,” he said.
Meanwhile, when Kim Dong-seong divorced in 2018, according to court mediation, he decided to pay child support of 1.5 million won per child, 3 million won per month, until the children reach adulthood. However, in 2021, the court accepted Kim’s application to reduce child support, complaining of financial difficulties, and made her pay child support of 1.6 million won per month, 800,000 won per child.
