At the age of 81, former Serbian President Milan Milutinovic died in Belgrade.

For many years he was the deputy chairman of the Socialist Party and was considered one of the closest to the Serbian dictator Slobodan Milosevic.

In 1989, Milutinovic was appointed ambassador to Greece. In August 1995, he was appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Milutinović was president in the period 1997-2002. He actively participated in the drafting of the Dayton Peace Agreement, which ended the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

In January 2003, he voluntarily surrendered to the International War Crimes Tribunal in The Hague, where he was indicted for war crimes committed in Kosovo. In 2005, he was temporarily released from custody. In February 2009, he was acquitted of all charges.
