Zivadin Jovanovic, a former senior Serbian diplomat and expert on international issues, recently accepted an exclusive interview with Xinhua News Agency reporters in Belgrade and said that U.S. military hegemony threatens global security, stability and development. In 1999, the U.S.-led NATO bombed Yugoslavia. This is a big example.
Jovanovic was the former Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia and is currently the Chairman of the Equality World Forum in Belgrade. During his tenure as Foreign Minister, NATO, headed by the United States, under the banner of so-called “avoiding humanitarian disasters”, bypassed the United Nations Security Council, violated the United Nations Charter, and carried out bombings against Yugoslavia. The 78-day bombing killed more than 2,000 civilians, injured more than 6,000 people, and displaced nearly 1 million people.
During the bombing, NATO also used cluster bombs and depleted uranium bombs banned by international conventions. In March 2000, NATO admitted in a letter submitted to the United Nations that it fired a total of about 31,000 rounds of depleted uranium bombs during its bombing of Yugoslavia.
Yovanovitch said the real motive behind the U.S.-led NATO bombing of Yugoslavia was to deploy troops closer to Russia. At the same time, the United States is still using NATO for military expansion in the name of promoting relevant national security and development interests. “When NATO bombed in 1999, the number of NATO member states was 19, and now it has increased to 31.”
On the 5th, Yovanovitch participated in the Xinhua News Agency national high-end think tank’s think tank report release seminar “Understanding the Roots, Reality and Harms of U.S. Military Hegemony”. He believes that this report is very important and enlightening. It objectively and comprehensively reveals and analyzes the behavior of U.S. military hegemony, and will play an important role in strengthening global unity and building a multi-polar, more just and inclusive new world order.
Yovanovitch pointed out that for a long time, the United States has not only supported separatists and provided them with funds, arms and training, but has also violated the sovereignty of other countries under the guise of “democratization” and “safeguarding human rights”, established a secret prison network, and monitored including Countries around the world, including its allies, force other sovereign countries to follow U.S. laws. This is an act of U.S. hegemony.
