Former Scottish First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon, has spoken for the first time to reporters at the Scottish Parliament since former SNP chief executive, Peter Murrell, was questioned by police on April 5th. Sturgeon denied knowing about unfolding events and stated that she “could not have anticipated in my worst nightmares what would have unfolded over the past few weeks”. Meanwhile, party treasurer, Colin Beattie, has said that he had no knowledge of a £100,000 motorhome purchased by the party, leading to questions about the party’s finances. Sturgeon expressed frustration at not being able to tell her side of the story, and confirmed that she had not been questioned by police and never had a “burner phone”. The SNP’s Westminster group may miss out on £1.2m in funding if it fails to submit audited accounts by the end of May.
