An incredible story. Hiannick Kamba, former Schalke 04 player, was found alive after being declared dead, following a road accident on January 9, 2016 in DR Congo, his native country. The former right-back, who notably worked with Manuel Neuer in the youth categories, was seen in the Ruhr four years after his supposed disappearance.
According to Bild, he is currently detained pending the investigation of this extraordinary case. His wife is said to be suspected by the justice system of having devised this plan to touch the life insurance of the player from the DR Congo.
Abandoned by his friends in DR Congo
According to the German tabloid, Kamba lived in the Ruhr area where he worked as a chemical technician for an energy supplier. In 2018, he reportedly went to the German embassy in Kinshasa to deny his death. “Kamba claims that he was abandoned by friends overnight in the Congo in January 2016 and left without documents, money and a mobile phone,” prosecutor Anette Milk told the German newspaper.
Kamba is considered as a witness by the German justice in this case which still contains many gray areas. His ex-wife will be tried for fraud. She would deny the charges, saying that she only discovered life insurance when her husband disappeared. The announcement of the (false) death of Kamba in 2016 had provoked a strong emotion, especially in the clubs where he had played, in the lower German divisions.
This story recalls that of Jlloyd Samuel. In 2019, the family of the former English player assured that the latter, declared dead after a road accident, was also alive.
