Former Russian tennis player Svetlana Kuznetsova accused Czech Petr Kvitova of Russophobia. The former US Open 2004 and Roland Garros 2009 champion responded to the words of the two-time Wimbledon winner (2011 and 2014) at the March tournament in Miami, USA.

After advancing to the final, Kvitova said: “I care about the people and players from Ukraine. In my opinion, Russians and Belarusians should not even compete in the Olympics. I feel that the Olympics are because we don’t want war in the world. So that it worries me. I really appreciated when the Wimbledon organizers didn’t invite them last year.” The Czech Republic thus supported the young Polish tennis player Iga Swiateková, who is against the start of the Russians and Belarusians at the 2024 Olympics in Paris.

The currently 37-year-old native of Leningrad (today’s St. Petersburg, note) did not directly mention Kvitova’s name in her homeland. “Many people in the world are against Russia. It is clear that the Czechs are now very against the Russians. There is propaganda and Russophobia all over the world now. But I think that athletes should not get involved. They just have to play tennis.” commented Kuznetsová according to the website iDnes.cz and continued: “Tennis players don’t understand politics at all. I don’t understand it, my colleagues from the national team don’t understand it. Why associate them with it?”

However, the former Russian tennis player did not condemn the Russian military aggression on the territory of Ukraine, which has been going on for more than a year and still costing thousands of lives.

“I understand when politicians play tennis, but the ATP and WTA try to keep the sport away from politics. And when we start this topic, let’s talk about all the wars that have been going on for almost the entire modern period in different countries and their consequences for the sport, ” she assessed without comment that the current war of the Russians, compared to others, is conducted with the obvious intention of seizing foreign territory and is accompanied by genocide of the Ukrainian population.

There are even official opinions from Russia that the goal is to establish a new world order.
