Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev’s Accusations: Western Countries’ Attempts to Make Russian Citizens Suffer with Sanctions

Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev accused Western countries of trying to make Russian citizens suffer with their sanctions. His comments came on the second anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

“We are used to their endless restrictions and have learned to live with them. But what I want to draw your attention to today is that these bans are no longer directed against the authorities or businesses in the country, as our opponent. They were taken against the entire population of Russia,” Medvedev wrote on Telegram amid the new EU sanctions package. He gave the example of the “Mir” payment system.

“The reason is clear – the worse it is for Russian citizens, the better for the Western world. Let them all suffer there. We just all have to remember that and take revenge on them where possible. They are our enemies,” Medvedev said. , who is currently the Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of Russia.

In his words, Russians living in Western territory should carry out “activities that are not usually talked about in public”. He openly called on Russians abroad to “cause public discontent” in Western countries. “On war as on war. And in this war, the victory will be ours,” concluded Medvedev.

It is not clear why the Russian authorities were so impressed by the Western sanctions, which allegedly “didn’t work” and even “made the Russian economy stronger”.
