Medvedev is said to have worked for the Russian mercenary organization in Ukraine before he escaped from Russia to Norway and sought asylum in January.

Called from prison
The Wagner group is accused of a wide range of war crimes during the Russian invasion of Ukraine. For the Norwegian authorities, Medvedev’s asylum application became a diplomatic hot potato.
– On the evening of April 6, Medvedev called Gulagu.net’s hotline from the immigration prison in Gothenburg and said that he went from Oslo to Gothenburg two days ago to buy cheap cigarettes, writes Gulagu.net according to The Express.

The 26-year-old is said not to have caught the bus back home to Norway, and is said to have been arrested by the police as he walked along the road. As he does not have a residence permit in Sweden, he was sent to the custody of the Swedish immigration authorities.
– There is no information that I am aware of. I don’t have the opportunity to investigate it now or the opportunity to confirm it if they were to be the case, says Communications Manager for the Migration Agency, Linda Widmark, to Expressen.
Asks for appology
According to Gulagu.net, Medvedev now regrets the trip. He is also said to have said that he was not aware that he was not allowed to leave Norway while the asylum application was being processed.
– Andrej Medvedev apologized and hopes for a chance to return to Norway to the house where he lives. He is grateful to Norway for the reception, help and support and promises not to do anything similar in the future, writes Gulagu.net.
The human rights organization also asks Norway to show understanding for the 26-year-old’s situation and refers to a traumatic childhood.
