A former Rockstar employee expressed his opinion on what GTA 6 could be in terms of content and size.
We all imagine that Rockstar’s ambitions in GTA 6 will surpass all precedents, but Tony Gowland, who has made his mark in games such as GTA Liberty City Stories, Vice City Stories, Chinatown Wars and even Red Dead Redemption, admitted that he hopes the map is in the game will be “smaller and denser” than in recent versions of the series.
In terms of what I’m hoping for, I personally would like the game to do something new in terms of world size. I think a smaller, more densely populated location could bring back that memorable navigation I loved in the original.
The only footage I’ve seen includes a few snippets from the leak, and I stopped watching it pretty quickly. I find it truly heartbreaking for the team to have all their hard work shown to the world for the first time in a shaky and unfinished form, and I would rather wait for the official trailer.
According to ongoing rumors and leaks cited by Gowland, GTA 6 will take place in a modernized and reimagined version of Vice City, inspired by Miami. Having worked on Vice City Stories, Gowland explains why the city is such an iconic destination.
It’s funny, isn’t it? When we finished working on Liberty City Stories, there were a lot of enthusiasts on the team who said: “Yes, now we’ll move on to Vice City!” Personally, I think there are two things to consider here. Firstly, the 1980s is a very memorable era, which at the time of the game’s release represented the childhood of many gamers. There are many films and TV series firmly rooted in the culture and atmosphere of the 80s, and the teams at Rockstar North and New Year have done a fantastic job of bringing it all into the game.
Secondly, I think the city works very well and is the perfect size of the open world cities we went through in our day where you could learn everything by heart. Honestly, I think that even now, if you left me anywhere in Vice City and tasked me with going to a certain place, I could completely work my way there.
