NEW YORK (Dagbladet): A man (25) was arrested early Friday on suspicion of assaulting the former Republican senator from Arizona.
The assault is said to have happened on Wednesday morning near Omaha in Nebraska where McSally was to give a speech, reports CNN.
“I was just mugged when I was out running along the Missouri River,” McSally said in a video on his Instagramaccount on Wednesday.
The 25-year-old was arrested in Council Bluffs, which is across the river from Omaha.

– A man came from behind and embraced me in a bear hug. And he assaulted me and groped me until I was able to fight him off, says McSally in the video.
The former senator was also the first female pilot in the US Air Force to participate in combat after the Air Force lifted its ban on female pilots.
McSally has previously stated that she was raped while serving in the Air Force. In the video this week, she says that she chased the assailant, but that he managed to get away.
Surveillance images
The suspect was arrested after Council Bluffs police released surveillance footage showing a man approaching McSally on a footbridge. He is said to have been recognized by staff at a nearby restaurant. The man is said to have used a credit card at the restaurant, and this is how he was identified by the police.
Tourist gang-raped
McSally was appointed senator when former war hero and presidential candidate John McCain died in 2018.
– I know that this hit a nerve related to past sexual abuse and assault that I have experienced – and from which I have healed as much as I felt I could. But in this case, I took my power back, says McSally in the video.
McSally told about the rape in 2019 when she participated in a Senate hearing on sexual abuse in the military.
