Former prosecutor Ilda Boccassini investigated in Florence: she did not reveal a source to prosecutors investigating the instigators of the mafia massacres

The former Milan prosecutor Ilda Boccassini, retired for five years, was investigated by the Florence prosecutor’s office for failing to reveal a source to prosecutors Luca Turco and Luca Tescaroli, in an investigation that became parallel to that on the instigators of the mafia massacres of 1993. According to what we understand, the two Florentine prosecutors served the notice of conclusion of the investigations to Ilda Boccassini a few days ago.

Based on what emerges, the former prosecutor is under investigation for “false information to the prosecutors” of Florence when she was questioned in December 2021 for a leak dating back to 1994 regarding an article in La Repubblica by the journalist Giuseppe D’Avanzo, died in 2011. The article reported revelations by mafia turncoat Salvatore Cancemi on the relationship between the mafia and former prime minister Silvio Berlusconi, leader and founder of Forza Italia.

Ilda Boccassini in her autobiographical book had written that she had learned from D’Avanzo, apparently a few days before his sudden death, which was in July 2011, the source of the news published in that article signed by D’Avanzo himself in 1994. Thus, having read the book, in December 2021 the deputy prosecutors of Florence Turco and Tescaroli summoned her to the prosecutor’s office with the aim of knowing the source, considering it useful for their investigations into Berlusconi as the alleged external instigator of the mafia massacres in Florence, Rome and Milan . During the interrogation Ilda Boccassini did not lie, she would not have declared falsely, but she remained silent on information she knew about, not telling, in fact, the source that D’Avanzo would have confided to her. The former magistrate did not answer the question, so the Florentine investigators accused her of violating article 371 bis of the penal code, for which they opened an investigation into the former Milan prosecutor.
