Former Prison Mate of Dani Alves Reveals Fleeing Plans on Spanish TV

A former prison mate of Dani Alves told a television program in Spain that the Brazilian footballer planned to flee to Brazil if he was granted parole. The risk of flight was precisely the reason why the three requests filed by the defense were denied by the Spanish courts last year. In a program on the ‘Telecinco’ channel, journalist Silvia Álamo spoke with a former cellmate of the footballer, a conversation that will be broadcast in full today. “As soon as they gave him parole, he would flee to Brazil,” said the man, whose identity was not revealed. “But was that what Dani Alves told you?” asked the journalist. “Of course,” said the man. Accused of raping a young woman in a nightclub in Barcelona at the end of 2022, Dani Alves, who has already started to stand trial, requested parole on three occasions, arguing that he lived in the city and that the intention was to defend his innocence.

However, the judge always understood that, due to his economic condition, there was a high risk of him fleeing to Brazil, a country with which Spain does not have an extradition agreement. Therefore, successive requests filed by the defense were denied.
