former premier Mihai Tudose will open the list PSD for the 2024 European Parliament elections, support political sources for News.ro.

For second place, Carmen Orban, advisor to the prime minister, has the best chances Marcel Ciolacu on health issues. The third position would be occupied by the MEP Victor Negrescu, vice-president of the European Socialists. At least two eligible places on the list PSD will be given to PUSL candidates, the party founded by Dan Voiculescu.

“One is already reserved for Maria Grapini. Lavinia Şandru and a journalist from the Intact trust are fighting for the second place”, claim the cited sources.

MEP Mihai Tudose will open the PSD list for Brussels. Tudose was prime minister between June 2017 and January 2018. He resigned from government and, later, from the party after a conflict with Liviu Dragnea. In the 2019 European Parliament elections, he obtained a seat as an MEP on the ProRomânia lists. He returned to the PSD after Marcel Ciolacu became president of the Social Democrats. Mihai Tudose announced on Wednesday that he will run for a new mandate in Brussels. Asked where the PSD will be in the European parliamentary elections, Tudose answered: “We will come out on top with a high score. I hope it will be over 30%”.

The second place on the PSD list will be occupied by a woman, for gender balance. According to the cited sources, at the moment the favorite is Carmen Orban, the advisor to Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu on health issues. In the period 2011-2019, Carmen Orban was manager of the Fundeni Clinical Institute.

The third place is reserved for Victor Negrescu, vice-president of the socialists at the European level and the main advisor to Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu on European politics. Negrescu will thus complete his third mandate as a deputy in Brussels.

The following places will be filled by Claudio Manda (Dolj) and Dragoş Benea (Bacău), followed by Maria Grapini, candidate from PUSL, the party controlled by Dan Voiculescu. “PUSL will receive one more eligible seat. Carmen Avram she no longer has support and could be replaced by another journalist from the Intact trust, but the competition is high: Lavinia Şandru has also entered the race”, claim sources from the PSD leadership.

Therefore, PSD still has three or four eligible seats, depending on the party’s score. “Among the current MEPs, they are fighting to get another seat And Nica and Rovana Plumb. Corina Creţu, elected in 2019 on the ProRomânia seats, is also knocking at the party’s door, but Mihai Tudose is opposed. From the Moldova region, Marius Budăi or Doina Teodorovici from Botoşani could get an eligible place. Gabriela Firea it was a name that was taken into account, but Mrs. Firea is not willing to go to Brixelles for the time being”, claim the cited sources.

How the PSD list for the European Parliament could look like:
