Former President Donald Trump on Tuesday night lashed out at Mazi Pilip, the Republican who lost her New York House seat to Democrat Tom Suozzi, calling her “a very foolish woman” after her defeat.
The Republican was defeated by Suozzi with 53.9% of the votes compared to 46.1% in the special election in New York’s third district to replace former Republican Representative George Santos, who was expelled from the House for various scandals.
Pilip, a Jew of African origin who served in the Israeli army and came to the United States in 2005 and was registered in the Democratic Party for several years, During the campaign he distanced himself from former President Trump.
“Republicans just don’t learn, but maybe she was still a democrat? I have an endorsement success rate of almost 99% in the primaries, and also a very good number in the general elections, but I just watched this very foolish woman, Mazi Melesa Pilip, run in a race where she didn’t support me and tried to ‘over the fence’, when she would have easily WON if she had understood anything about MODERN politics in America”, wrote the former president in his Truth Social network.
According to Trump, Pilip’s defeat has to do with a punishing vote by his MAGA followers, due to the lack of empathy with the candidate chosen by the Republican Party. It must be remembered that In 2022 George Santos won this open seat by 8 points over his Democratic rival.
“MAGA, which is the majority of the Republican party, stayed home, and always will, unless it is treated with the respect it deserves,” Trump added.
“I was left out of the race, ‘I want to be loved!’ give us a real candidate in the district for November. Suozzi, I know him well, he can be easily defeated!”, emphasized the New York tycoon.
Pilip’s future
Despite Trump’s harsh criticism of Pilip, from the Republican Party expressed their support for the now former candidatehighlighting his future within the party.
The National Republican Congressional Committee called the race “an uphill battle” from the beginning and He called Pilip a “fighter with a bright future within the Republican Party.”
“Joe Biden won this district by 8 points, Democrats outspent Republicans two to one, and our Democratic opponent spent decades representing these New Yorkers, but it was still a dogfight. Republicans still have multiple paths to increase our majority in November“NRCC President Richard Hudson said in a statement.
