Former President Trump Could Face Prison Time if He Disregards Gag Order, Says Jurist Ty Cobb

Jurist Ty Cobb spoke about Trump’s stance toward the court and witnesses and considered that the former president would be sent to prison if he does not respect that order, after District Judge Tanya Chutkan reinstated it on Sunday.

The former president was already fined for this reason by a judge in New York, where he is responding to a civil lawsuit for fraud, but “that does not have as many consequences” as the Chutkan case, he stressed.

Chutkan, who originally issued the gag order against the former president in early October, also denied Trump’s request for a long-term suspension of that provision, which prohibits the former president from publicly addressing court staff, potential witnesses or the special counsel’s team. .

The judge issued the order earlier this month following concerns from prosecutors that the former president could intimidate witnesses or encourage harm against them because of his public comments.

Trump quickly appealed, and Chutkan temporarily froze the order on Oct. 20 while special counsel Jack Smith’s team and the former Oval Office occupant’s lawyers litigated whether it should be paused indefinitely during the appeal process.

The former president criticized the ruling this Sunday night, alleging that it infringed his right to freedom of expression.

«The corrupt administration of (Joe) Biden just took away my First Amendment right to free speech. IT’S NOT CONSTITUTIONAL! MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN…” published the candidate for the presidential nomination for the Republican Party for the 2024 elections.

Trump now faces two gag orders prohibiting him from publicly discussing aspects of his court cases: that of Chutkan, who is overseeing the case brought by Smith in Washington DC, and that of the civil fraud trial in New York.

Prosecutors in Smith’s office urged Chutkan last week to reinstate the gag order, arguing that the former ruler almost immediately after she paused the measure resumed posting intimidating messages against them and potential witnesses in the case on social networks.

Make America Great Again is the slogan that Trump coined since his 2016 campaign, a phrase similar to the one used by Ronald Reagan (Let’s Make America Great Again) in his 1980 presidential run.
