Former President Donald Trump was not heard with his demand to invalidate a civil trial against him in New York.
Trump has accused the judge in the case involving New York State Attorney General Letitia James, a Democrat, of being politically biased.
A judge in Manhattan made his decision on Friday. Judge Arthur Engoron states that he cannot allow Trump to invalidate the trial because the claim is “completely without merit”.
– As expected, the court today refused to take responsibility for its failure to conduct this case in an impartial manner, says Alina Habba, one of Trump’s lawyers.
She still promises to fight the issue.
It is the state of New York that has taken civil action against the former president. The accusations are that the accounting in Trump-owned companies has been done in a way that inflated the value of the companies so that it was easier to get loans.
The lawsuit in New York is just one of many legal entanglements for the former president of the United States who will also be the next president. For now, he clearly leads the other candidates in the Republican nomination race.
