Recently rumors circulated that the former President of the United States (US), Donald Trump, had the sexually transmitted infection (STI) syphilis. This rumor emerged after a photo circulated showing the 45th US President waving at the camera with three red spots on the palm of his hand.
Quoted from Forbes, Donald Trump is known to be leaving his residence in New York to attend E Jean Carroll’s second defamation trial on Wednesday (17/1/2024). As a result of the red ‘spots’ visible on his thumb, palm and index finger, quite a few people speculated that he had health problems, including suspected syphilis.
In fact, the rumor that spread that Donald Trump had syphilis came from the words of a former advisor to the 42nd US President Bill Clinton, James Carville.
“To me, the sores don’t look like sores. They look like blisters. And I have asked a number of MDs (doctors) what medical conditions arise through the sores on the hands and the answer was straight and quick and unanimous – secondary syphilis,” he said .
Syphilis does have four stages, namely primary, secondary, latent and tertiary. Each stage has different signs and symptoms.
The main symptoms of secondary syphilis are skin rashes and/or sores in the mouth or around the genitals, as well as rashes on the palms of the hands and/or soles of the feet.
On the other hand, Dr. Joshua Zeichner, a professor of dermatology at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City, told Business Insider that Trump likely had a rash. This condition can occur with almost any skin disease, including dry hands.
“Rashes on the hands can be caused by various factors, ranging from infection, inflammatory conditions, to external exposure,” said Zeichner, quoted by Insider.
Nonetheless, the sign reportedly disappeared from Trump’s hand just hours later as he held a campaign rally in New Hampshire ahead of the Granite State’s Republican primary. Also, there is no concrete evidence that Trump suffers from the condition.
Until now there has been no official statement from former President Donald Trump.
