Former President Donald Trump promised he would carry out the “largest deportation operation in US history” if he is re-elected as president in 2024, during a political rally in New Hampshire.
“We will use all necessary state, local, federal and military resources to carry out the largest national deportation operation in the history of the United States,” said Trump, who vowed to “ridden” the United States of irregular immigrants.
The activist and defender of the rights of migrants, Carlos Eduardo Espina, said that Trump seeks to apply measures similar to those of Operation Wetback (Operation Wetback, in English). This was an initiative that was implemented by the Dwight Eisenhower government to persecute and expel all Mexican workers who came to the country during World War II to help the labor problems in the country.

It is not the first time that Trump has announced something of this style. At the end of July, the former president and Republican candidate had already used the same words to refer to his government plans if he wins a second term.
“I will immediately end all open border policies of the Biden administration… We will carry out the largest national deportation operation in American history. We have no other choice,” Trump said at a political rally in late July.

It should be noted that Trump had already made the same promise in 2015, when he was entering the campaign for the presidency for the 2016 elections. The then Republican candidate said that it would take him only “18 months to two years” to deport those over 11 Millions of irregular migrants in the United States. Once elected, however, Trump’s deportation rates were much lower than those of his predecessor, Democrat Barack Obama.
With these promises, Trump shows that the anti-immigrant agenda will also mark this new campaign for the presidency. The border is a key issue in states like Arizona and Nevada, which will be vital to winning the presidency in 2024.
Two weeks ago, the Secretary of National Security, Alejandro Mayorkas, had to answer before the Judicial Commission of the House of Representatives for the Biden government’s management of the irregular crossings.

At Tuesday’s rally in New Hampshire, former President Trump also spoke about his latest criminal indictment. On August 3, special counsel Jack Smith criminally charged the Republican with four counts related to his efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential election.
The charges include conspiracy to defraud the United States, conspiracy to obstruct an official proceeding, obstruction of an official proceeding, and conspiracy against citizens’ rights. Despite the fact that the panorama in the courts is not the best, Trump remains positive about the situation. In fact, the candidate has stated that this helps his image.
“Every time I get accused, I like to check the polls. One more impeachment and I think this election is over!” Trump said, referring to his rise in the polls after each impeachment.
Closing the event, Trump asked attendees if he should attend Fox News’s pre-candidate debate on August 23. Former Vice President Mike Pence, Trump’s formula in 2016, could also attend said event. This reunion would mark the highlight of the debate, as Pence and Trump distanced themselves after the assault on the Capitol in January 2021.
