For the former president, the accusation imposed on him is part of a political persecution.

The former Republican president opined that “since they cannot beat him,” they must “pursue him.”

Trump was indicted by special counsel Jack Smith, who is leading the investigation against the former president for his role during the 2020 election and for mishandling classified documents.
The indictment established that Trump spread “widespread lies” about alleged voter fraud. This with the aim of stopping the certification of the presidential elections that gave the current national president, Joe Biden, the winner.
According to the CNBC news portal, Trump currently faces four charges related to his role in trying to reverse the election, but also for trying to dismiss legitimate votes during the electoral contest.
No other president in US history, current or former, has faced criminal charges.
