Former President Bolsonaro will return to Brazil in March | Abroad

Former Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro, who fled to the US state of Florida in December, says he will return to his home country in March. He intends to lead the opposition. The newspaper writes that Wall Street Journal.

The right-wing populist politician left just before he was succeeded by the leftist Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. His supporters attacked government buildings in Brazil’s capital Brasilia on January 8 out of dissatisfaction with the election result. The former president denies any involvement and says he will defend himself against the accusations in Brazil.

“The right-wing movement is not dead and will live on,” Bolsonaro continued in his first interview in the United States. He has still not acknowledged his electoral defeat. Ahead of the poll, Bolsonaro suggested he could only lose to Lula through fraud. Lula eventually won with 50.9 percent of the vote.

Bolsonaro appears in the interview with the Wall Street Journal to have moderated his criticism of the election results. “Losing is part of the electoral process,” he said. “I’m not saying there was fraud, but the process was biased.” Bolsonaro kept a low profile in the final period of his presidency after losing the election.
