“Former presenter and painter Rolf Harris dies at age 93, remembered for both artistic legacy and abuse conviction”

Australian former presenter and painter Rolf Harris has died at the age of 93. British media report this on Tuesday. In October last year it was announced that Harris suffered from head and neck cancer and could barely speak.

Harris was sentenced to five years and nine months in prison in 2014 for molesting four underage girls and a woman between 1968 and 1986. He was released from prison after three years.

Before Harris was convicted of abuse, he was a popular presenter for many years. After working in Australia in children’s television from 1960 to 1962, Harris moved permanently to the United Kingdom. He not only worked in TV entertainment there, but also hosted a TV series in Canada. He was also active as a painter.

From 1967 he presented the Rolf Harris Show, which connected music and painting. In 1969 Harris scored a big musical hit with Two Little Boys. With that he scored a number 1 hit in the United Kingdom.

Thanks to his TV work, he became one of the UK’s best-known artists. In 2005, he was commissioned to paint an official portrait of Queen Elizabeth.
