In connection with the death of Li Keqiang, some websites of government agencies changed their design to mourning, and the Weibo social network replaced the “Like” mark with “Mourning.”

Li Keqiang has served as Premier of the State Council, the head of the Chinese government, since 2013. He left him in March 2023, when Chinese President Xi Jinping made personnel changes in a number of government agencies. Li Keqiang was also removed from the Politburo Standing Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC).

Li Keqiang was positioned as a supporter of economic reforms and the free market, recalls Reuters. However, not everything he did as prime minister for ten years corresponded to this.

Adam Ni, an independent Chinese political analyst, described Li Keqiang as “a premier who found himself impotent as China took a sharp turn away from reform and opening up.”

However, Reuters notes, representatives of liberal circles, discussing the death of Li Keqiang on the Chinese social network WeChat, spoke of the event as the end of an era.

After the death of Li Keqiang, the popularity of the song “Sorry it wasnʼt you”, which users mentioned, hinting at the current head of China Xi Jinping, sharply increased on Chinese social networks. This composition had a similar surge in popularity in November 2022, when former Chinese President Jiang Zemin died.
