BRATISLAVA – Former Wales representative Craig Bellamy gave an interesting confession in which he admitted personal bankruptcy and falling to the bottom.
The former striker, who started football in Norwich City, later played in Newcastle United, West Ham, Liverpool and Manchester City. Bellamy has earned huge millions during his career as a professional footballer in the Premier League, but currently has no assets.
Bellamy currently works as assistant manager to Vincent Kompany at Burnley. The Welshman admitted that he did not spend the money on unnecessary luxury, alcohol or women. Unfortunately, he trusted the wrong people. Unsuccessful real estate investments made in his name are the reason for his total bankruptcy. Bellamy believes his experience can be a warning to other players.
I have no future financially
“It’s like I have nothing to look forward to. All the money I’ve made I can’t get back and I can’t even get a mortgage. I have no future financially. I can’t own anything. It’s all gone. I’m not a tax evader but he was I’m very naive. It’s gotten to the point where bankruptcy is a huge relief. It means I can live again.” priznal Bellamy.

Unfortunately, I gambled with people
“I know some people will probably think that I’ve wasted all my money on drink, gambling or drugs. I certainly haven’t. I can be as down as I am, I’ll never sit in a pub. I’ve never touched drugs since I was a child. Unfortunately, I gambled with people” continued the confession of the former striker, who during his career scored 135 goals for nine different clubs.

“I want this to be a warning to other players. Check everything. Make sure the people giving you advice are the right ones. If they’re not in control, it’s going to be the wild west. Get your stuff checked by independent people, which is the equivalent of getting a second opinion.I was brought up in a generation of footballers where everything was done for you.
Wherever I was, the club did everything for me. I think that was not right. This makes you too vulnerable. It is good that the players have their own responsibility because one day the club will not be there. And when you’re done, who’s going to pay for your stuff? You will have to learn to survive. You will live in the real world,” Bellamy concluded his open confession with valuable advice for other professional players who rely mainly on their agents these days.
