Robert Smoktunowicz – former member of the national council of the Civic Platform
In 1995, he became a legal advisor to the Italian embassy in Poland. During the presidential elections in 2000, he was an advisor to Andrzej Olechowski. During this period, he joined the emerging Civic Platform – he became its legal expert and a member of the national council. He won the senator’s mandate by running in the Warsaw suburban district.

He left PO in September 2007. In the Senate elections that year, he ran as a non-partisan candidate with the support of the Left and Democrats, but did not win a seat. He unsuccessfully tried to win a seat in the Senate again in 2015, running as an independent candidate.
