Former Philippine National Police (PNP) official, Lt. Gen. Benjamin Santos Jr., who was implicated in an alleged drug bust cover-up, has protested his innocence, claiming that there was a lack of due process for him when he was implicated. Santos was one of the top police officials asked to take a leave by Secretary of Interior and Local Government Benjamin Abalos Jr. during the investigation of the alleged police cover-up in the trade of PHP6.7bn worth of crystal meth. Santos stated that Abalos had implicated him merely by relying on CCTV footage without any further consultation or due process. He said that had he been given the chance to explain himself, he would have informed the Secretary that he had gone to the crime scene upon the instruction of PNP Chief after the fact, and was not part of the conduct of the buy-bust operation. Santos claimed that he had only waited until the prosecutor arrived to take inventory of the scene after which he had left.
