Former Oxford Professor Tariq Ramadan Acquitted of Rape and Sexual Assault Charges in Swiss Court

Geneva: A Swiss court acquitted former Oxford University professor and Islamic scholar Tariq Ramadan of rape and sexual assault charges. The court action was taken after no evidence could be found against Tariq Ramadan.

He also received around 151,000 Swiss francs in compensation from the Swiss canton of Geneva for the case. But the plaintiff’s lawyer said that he will appeal against the verdict. Last week, prosecutors asked for a three-year prison sentence against Ramadan.

The case was that she was raped in a hotel room in Geneva in October 2008. The woman complained that she was molested three times. But Ramadan’s lawyer argued that there is no scientific evidence for this. The lawyer also argued that the allegations were fabricated.
