It was reported on Wednesday by local media, according to which the 31-year-old musician died after falling from the third floor of the hotel.
Local dailies La Nación and Clarín said police were called to the hotel in the wealthy Palermo district following an emergency call about an alleged “aggressive man who may be under the influence of drugs and alcohol”.
Paramedics later confirmed the death of the singer, who was found in the courtyard of the Casa Sur Hotel. The head of the emergency medical system, Alberto Crescenti, declined to release details of the incident, including whether Payne jumped from the balcony or fell accidentally. He told Todo Noticias Crescenti that authorities are investigating all the circumstances surrounding Payne’s death and are conducting an autopsy.
Pablo Policicchio, a spokesman for the Ministry of Security of the Argentine capital, told the AP that Payne “threw himself from the balcony of his room.”
Together with Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Niall Horan and Louis Tomlinson, Liam Payne formed the globally popular group One Direction at the time.
