Former NY Governor David Paterson and stepson attacked in NYC – NBC New York

NEW YORK – Former New York Governor David Paterson and his stepfather were attacked Friday night in Manhattan, according to three law enforcement sources.

Paterson, 70, and his stepson Anthony Chester Sliwa, 20, were walking on Second Avenue near East 96th Street on the Upper East Side when they noticed three teenagers running from a fire and called on them to go NBC New York. The teenagers got out and followed the former governor and his stepfather to a corner near McDonald’s on Second Avenue, where they attacked them.

Both were taken to Cornell Medical Center in New York, sources said, after suffering minor bumps and bruises. Paterson was hit several times during the attack, two sources said, but appeared to be OK. His stepfather suffered more severe cuts and bruises, but sources said he was expected to recover.

Sean Darcy, a spokesman for the former governor, issued a statement saying the attack happened near Paterson’s home and that the teenagers “had prior interactions with his stepmother.”

“Both suffered some injuries, but were able to defend themselves from their attackers. They are currently at Cornell Hospital as a precaution. They have already filed a police report and no further information is available at this time,” the statement read.

The three teenagers who attacked Paterson and his stepfather immediately fled after him. The police were looking for them.
