Former NY Congressman George Santos Withdraws Independent Candidacy after Expulsion from Congress

Former New York congressman expelled from the United States House of Representatives, George Santos, He announced this Tuesday that he is withdrawing his candidacy as an independent candidate for Congress in this year’s elections.

“I have decided to withdraw from my independent race for New York’s First Congressional District. “the controversial Republican Party spokesperson posted on his X account.

Santos, who became famous for having created almost his entire resume when he entered politics as a Republican congressman, announced that the reason he was withdrawing from this year’s political race. He did not want to favor the Democratic Party, he reported on the EFE group.

“I don’t want my campaign to be portrayed as a vendetta against (Republican candidate) Nick LaLota. (…) “I don’t want to split the bid and be responsible for giving the House to the Democrats,” he said. And he added: “I’ll be back.”

Santos announced his candidacy in March to challenge Congressman Nick LaLota in New York’s First Congressional District, arguing that “New York has not had a true conservative representing them since he left I arbitrarily appointed, thanks to RINO, empty suits like [LaLota]”.

Although he initially said he was running as a Republican, Two weeks later he ran as an independent.

Santos was expelled from Congress in December after the House Ethics Committee released a report that found “substantial evidence” that he violated federal law and used campaign funds for personal expenses.

LaLota is one of the Republicans who voted to suspend Santos in December.

After Santos resigned, LaLota in X responded to his announcement saying: “He accepts a plea deal,” referring to the 23 federal charges Santos faces.

To which Santos responded, in another X publication, accusing LaLota of “spreading false information. ” The former New York congressman has pleaded not guilty to all charges against him.
