Former NHL Goalie Patrick Roy Named New Head Coach of New York Islanders

The New York Islanders have appointed former top goalie Patrick Roy as their new coach. The 58-year-old is the successor to Lane Lambert, under whom things didn’t go as planned this season. The Islanders are currently outside of the play-off ranks. Roy previously coached in the National Hockey League with the Colorado Avalanche from 2013 to 2016. As an active player, he had 551 NHL victories, making him number three among goalies.

The most goals in NHL Saturday games came in the Boston Bruins’ 9-4 home win against the Montreal Canadiens. The last time Boston scored nine goals in a match was in 2012, and this time 16 players from the winners scored in the points standings. Danton Heinen shone with his first career hat trick. There were also a lot of goals in the Colorado Avalanche’s 7:4 win over the Philadelphia Flyers and in the Vancouver Canucks’ 6:4 home win against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
