Former NHL Forward Reggie Savage Dies at 53: Washington Capitals Mourn the Loss

Former Canadian hockey player Reggie Savage died on Sunday in Florida at the age of 53. The former forward, who played in the overseas NHL for the Washington Capitals and Quebec Nordiques, succumbed to cancer.

“The Capitals are saddened to learn of the passing of Reggie Savage, who spent three years with our organization. His talent and love of the game fueled an unforgettable playing career that spanned 15 seasons in several professional leagues on multiple continents.” Washington said in a statement Friday, citing the TSN website.

Savage played a skillful 34 games in the overseas professional league, in which he collected 12 points (5+7). The Canadian forward spent most of his career in the farm AHL, but he also tried his hand at working in Europe, where he wore the jerseys of the Italian Asiago and the Swiss clubs EHC Biel and EHC Visp.
