Former Negros Oriental Governor Pryde Henry Teves has announced that he will join the Senate investigation on the killing of his political rival, Roel Degamo. Teves, who served as governor until Degamo unseated him in October 2022, said he had returned to private life and was “enjoying it” until the Degamo murder. Recently, documents and items allegedly belonging to the suspected gunmen in the killing were found in a sugar mill compound reportedly owned by Teves, along with dozens of firearms, explosives, and ammunition. Teves has surrendered 18 of his guns and filed a waiver allowing the Department of Justice (DOJ) to look into his bank accounts, phone records, and emails in an effort to clear his name. Additionally, Teves’ brother, Negros Oriental 3rd District Rep. Arnolfo Teves Jr., who was previously considered one of the masterminds in the death of Degamo and 8 others but denies involvement, will virtually attend the Senate probe.
