Former NCT member Taeil has reportedly been charged for allegedly sexually assaulting a woman along with two other men.
In late August, SM Entertainment announced that Taeil had left K-pop group NCT after the agency learned that he had been “charged in a criminal case related to a sexual offense.” Without disclosing any details, the agency said it had “determined that Taeil could no longer continue his activities with NCT” due to the seriousness of the situation.
Yesterday (October 7), Chosun-Ilbo reported that the K-pop singer was charged for the alleged sexual assault of a drunken woman alongside two other non-celebrity men. He is currently under investigation for special quasi-rape.
Under South Korean law, the charge of “near rape” refers to a sexual assault committed while armed with a weapon or with two or more people acting in concert against a victim in a state vulnerable. This includes being under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
According to Korea Current DailyTaeil could be sentenced to more than seven years, or even life in prison, if convicted.
In response to Monday’s reports, SM Entertainment said it was “difficult to comment as the matter is currently under investigation” in a statement to THE OCEAN.
Taeil debuted in 2016 as a member of NCT in its rotating sub-unit NCT U. He later became a member of the stationary sub-unit NCT 127. Their last release was their July 2024 studio album “Walk” , led by the title track of the same name.
