Former national team player Volkan Kahraman shot dead in the open street

On Wednesday, former Austrian national team player Volkan Kahraman, 43, was shot dead in the open street. The crime took place at lunchtime in the Vienna district of Simmering, the German-language daily reports Salzburg news.

According to the newspaper, a fight broke out in a restaurant. It then degenerated into gunfire in the street outside.

The suspected perpetrator, a 45-year-old man, is said to have then shot himself and his life could not be saved.

Kahraman represented clubs such as Feyenoord, Trabzonspor, Salzburg and Austria Wien. He was a profile in Austria and seen as a great talent. He played three caps for the Austrian national team and made 25 appearances for the U21 national team.

“Rest in peace Volkan,” writes Austria Wien on social media.
