A British court has dismissed a claim for damages from a former mistress of Spain’s former king Juan Carlos. The Danish Corinna zu Sayn-Wittgenstein-Sayn demanded 146 million euros from the 85-year-old former king. He allegedly allowed her to be harassed and intimidated for years once the affair was over.
Juan Carlos denies this and a British court has now ruled in his favor. According to the judge, the Danish has not sufficiently demonstrated that her claim has any chance of success. Therefore, the case was dismissed.
Hunting party
Corinna zu Sayn-Wittgenstein-Sayn (59) met Juan Carlos in 2004 during a millionaire hunting party in southern Spain organized by her company. According to her, it was an immediate hit. “He called me ten times in one day. He sent flowers and I received hundreds of letters, all handwritten,” she said in a podcast released last year.
The affair lasted five years. Afterwards, the Spanish intelligence service allegedly threatened her and her children. The first time would have been in 2012, two years before Juan Carlos resigned. Sayn-Wittgenstein-Sayn is said to have spoken to the head of the service in a London hotel. According to her, burglaries took place at her apartments in Monaco and her villa in Switzerland at the same time. A book about the death of British Princess Diana was allegedly left in that villa as a threat.
