JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Former Minister of Youth and Sports Roy Suryo was reported to the Police Criminal Investigation Unit by Volunteer Pilar 08, on suspicion of spreading hate speech and false information or hoaxes to the public.
The report is related to Roy’s statement about the three types of microphones used by vice presidential candidate number 2 Gibran Rakabuming Raka during the second debate in the 2024 Presidential Election (Pilpres) on Friday (22/12/2023).
“We from Pilar 08 would like to make a report to Bareskrim regarding alleged fake news (hoax), hate speech which was allegedly carried out by Roy Suryo in connection with the aftermath of the second vice presidential debate yesterday, in which Roy Suryo stated that there was fraud,” said Head of Legal Division of Pilar 08 Hanfi Fajri in Jakarta, reported by Antara, Tuesday (2/1/2024).

The report has been registered with the number LP/B/3/I/2023/SPKT/BARESKRIM POLRI. Pillar 08 includes a number of pieces of evidence, including a screenshot of X Roy Suryo’s account with the name @KRMTRoySuryo1.
Apart from that, a statement from the Chairman of the General Election Commission (KPU) Hasyim Asy’ari was also conveyed which denied Roy Suryo’s accusations.
Hanfi said that Pilar 08 reported Roy for alleged acts of hate speech which violated Article 28 paragraph (2) in conjunction with Article 45A paragraph (2) of Law Number 19 of 2016 concerning amendments to Law Number 11 of 2008 concerning electronic information and transactions and/ or article 14 of the Criminal Code and/or article 15 of the Criminal Code and/or article 207 of the Criminal Code.
“Even though everything has been denied by the Chairman of the KPU, the consortium of TV organizers has also been denied. But Roy Suryo still insisted that he felt he was right. “In fact, we don’t want any provocation that causes commotion and hate speech against the candidate pairs, so to prove the truth, we made a report,” he said.

He claimed that making this report was his party’s initiative and there was no order from Bawaslu.
He does not want the public to be provoked by Roy Suryo’s tweets and wants to keep the political situation leading up to the 2024 elections conducive, safe and free from fraud.
Hanfi regretted the narrative conveyed by Roy Suryo because he was seen as bringing down Gibran.
According to him, some time ago Gibran responded to the accusations in a relaxed manner and asked that if Roy Suryo felt there was fraud, he had to prove it himself by making a report to the KPU, DKPP or Bawaslu.
“Democracy exists for freedom, but that doesn’t mean being free to insult, insult, incite, provoke, in fact we are here to protect people’s rights so that they are not provoked, are not divided,” he said.

Previously on Friday (22/12), Roy Suryo wrote a tweet on his X account regarding the inaugural vice presidential debate at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC) Convention Hall.
According to him, there were a number of irregularities in the debate held by the KPU. Some of the tweets he typed were:
“I already thought yesterday, to avoid cheating, the KPU should be fair next time,” tweeted Roy Suryo via his X account.
“Why does number 2 use 3 (three) mics at once: 1. Clip-on, 2. Hand-held & 3. Head-set? What’s the point of having earphones? Who can feed it into their ears? Why are there 2 candidates? is it different? Ambyar,” he added.
