“Former Minister of Education Dr. Tarek Shawky appointed as Advisor to American University in Cairo”

The American University in Cairo announced the appointment of Dr. Tarek Shawky, the former Minister of Education and Technical Education, as an advisor to the university, to succeed Dr. Mohamed Hamza, who held the position since December 2021.

AUC President Dr. Ahmed Dallal said, “Dr. Tarek Shawky is a distinguished member of our university community and has a long history with AUC. Through his new role as a member of the AUC senior leadership team, Dr. Shawky will play an important role in maintaining good relations between the university Egyptian universities, the Supreme Council of Universities and the Egyptian government.

Dallal added that Dr. Shawky has a long history in leading educational and cultural institutions and is internationally known for his efforts to reimagine traditional teaching methods.

Shawky held the position of Dean of the College of Science and Engineering at the American University in Cairo from 2012 to 2015, and the position of Strategic Advisor to the President of the University for Education and Community Outreach. Presidency from 2015 to 2017.

Shawky has extensive experience in theoretical and applied mechanics and has taught engineering and applied mathematics for several decades. He holds a Ph.D. in Engineering and a Master’s degree in Solids Mechanics and Applied Mathematics from Brown University, and a BSc in Mechanical Engineering from Cairo University.
