On December 1, 2021, Zhang Jinghua, deputy secretary of the Jiangsu Provincial Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, was investigated. He served as a member of the Standing Committee of the Jiangsu Provincial Party Committee and Secretary of the Nanjing Municipal Party Committee from July 2017 to February 2021.

Ji Jianye was accused of being the “big steward” of Yangzhou, the hometown of Jiang Zemin, the former leader of the Communist Party of China. On November 15, 2018, Miao Ruilin, vice governor of Jiangsu Province, was investigated; on November 19, 2019, he was sentenced to 10 and a half years in prison. He served as deputy secretary of the Nanjing Municipal Party Committee and mayor.
In addition, Shen Jian, member of the Standing Committee of the Nanjing Municipal Party Committee and executive deputy mayor, committed suicide in June 2019. Shen Jian used to be the secretary of Luo Zhijun, the mayor of Nanjing and secretary of the Nanjing Municipal Party Committee.
Luo Zhijun is accused of being an official of the Jiang faction and a key member of the “Jiangsu Gang”. On April 1, 2023, Luo Zhijun, former secretary of the Jiangsu Provincial Party Committee, passed away. The official obituary stated that he “passed away” in Beijing “due to illness”. At that time, Hong Kong media quoted news that he committed suicide because of depression, and it was rumored that he fell to his death.
