Former Mayor of Plovdiv to Manage Church and Monastery Properties for Plovdiv Metropolis

The former mayor of Plovdiv, Zdravko Dimitrov, will manage the church and monastery properties of the Plovdiv Metropolis. Metropolitan Nikolay personally extended the invitation to him, reported Plovdiv24.bg.

“Metropolitan Nikolay’s trust is important to me. This is a great responsibility,” commented Zdravko Dimitrov. The appointment is to be officially announced after the stabilization of Patriarch Neophyte’s health.

The involvement of a secular person in the management of the metropolis is not a precedent. Dr. Konstantin Zisov, architect Dimitar Akhryanov, MP Radomir Cholakov have been members of the Diocesan Council for many years.

Dimitrov’s professional skills in private business, as regional mayor, deputy, regional governor and mayor of Plovdiv are his big plus in the new challenge. He has always been close to Metropolitan Nicholas since his election to the post in 2007 until now. The Bishop often mentions him in his sermons as a good, honest and dedicated Christian.

During Zdravko Dimitrov’s term as mayor, the restoration of the former Greek school began, which became the metropolitan reception hall. The restoration of the authentic appearance of the exterior of the building is the work of the restorer artist Nikola Stoyanov, according to the restoration project approved in 1984 by the author arch. Rumyana Proikova. Next door, the new Church of the Holy Archangels was built, the construction of which began on the top of the Three Hills in September 2020, and Dimitrov laid the first stone in the foundations of the church.

The Plovdiv Diocese covers the administrative districts of Plovdiv, Pazardzhik, Smolyan, Haskovo, Kardjali, in which there are many church properties, a large part of which were donated by lay people.
