The court of Belgorod arrested for two months the former mayor of the city Anton Ivanov in a criminal case on a bribe on an especially large scale, informs RIA Novosti.
Lawyer Elena Palymova said that Ivanov is suspected of taking a bribe in the form of a car worth almost three million rubles.
The former official was detained in early March while trying to fly to Uzbekistan. During the meeting, Ivanov said that he was going to leave Russia in search of work.
Judging by message Directorate of the Investigative Committee for the Belgorod Region, the crime refers to the period from August 2019 to July 2021, when Ivanov served as General Director of the Belgorod Mortgage Corporation JSC.
Part 6 Article 290 of the Criminal Code Ivanov could face eight to 15 years in prison.
Anton Ivanov was elected mayor of Belgorod in December 2021. In October 2022, he retired.
