Former mayor Heijmans takes the municipality of Weert to court | Inland

According to the newspaper, Heijmans wants to prevent the municipality from publishing emails from him with PvdA councilor Fanida Kadra, among others. De Limburger previously wrote that Heijmans gave a 23,000 euro subsidy to the Stichting International Award for Young People, of which he himself is chairman. Kadra has a part-time job there.

As a result of the commotion that arose after this publication, Heijmans resigned his duties temporarily in January. But according to the newspaper, the aldermen who stayed behind wanted to disclose documents against the will of Heijmans that he wanted to keep secret. This was in response to an appeal by De Limburger to the Public Administration Act (WOB). According to the side, that quarrel ran so high that Heijmans reported sick to the governor and announced that he did not want to return to office. Governor Theo Bovens has now appointed Ina Leppink as acting mayor.

On Wednesday, the city council of Weert will consider an independent investigation into the integrity of Heijmans. Heijmans now also receives support from the Weerter community. For example, twenty (former) residents of Weert sent a letter to the city council on Friday, in which they support the former mayor. This includes former aldermen and councilors, former mayor Karel Majoor, and employees of the mosques in Weert.
